As soon as an Orthodox faithful fall asleep, the priest makes a Trisagion over the body. Then the funeral home takes care of the paperwork and of the body until arrangements of the funeral services are ready to be performed in coordination with the family and the priest.
The funerals prayers can be performed at the funeral homes or at church, the families are encouraged to use the church for prayers because it is more appropriate for prayer for the Orthodox faithful.
In case the funerals prayers are performed at church, the clergy will make the preaching or the eulogy at church, while the family eulogies are performed during the mercy meals.
Kindly contact the Pastor of the church for coordination and for the announcement of the arrangements to the parish.
The Church offers the Third, the Ninth and Forty Days, as well as the Six Months and Yearly memorials for the departed. The customs are to offer a Trisagion Prayer and the end of the Liturgical Services.
You can also pray for the living and for the departed apart from the Trisagion payer when you offer bread and ask for their commemoration at the Divine Liturgy.
Contact the Pastor for these Trisagions and memorials for more information and to schedule a service.
For the bread if you do not know a bakery you can contact Mrs. Amalie Greer who might be pleased to prepare for you the bread for the Proskomide (Oblation) and for the commemorations.
